seal script that looks like cat kanji

Wakanomori is providing me with all kinds of interesting items these days. For today, have some cat kanji. It looks made up, doesn't it? But it's a bone fide form of seal script--that is, stylized kanji used for signature seals. The source is 篆楷字典 (Tenkai Jiten), a dictionary of seal script (tensho) and kaisho, a very clear, blocky style used in inscriptions.

Oh, dear, they really do look like cat images! Cat wearing blindfold. Cat gesticulating. Two cat sitting on rooftop. Cat with mumps.

Sort of a guide to how to draw simplified cats in many different positions and situations!

These are certainly fun! The last few not only look like cats, but like cats from another planet. :)
(Is making a seal script like inventing a typeface? Who would use this seal script?)

That's a very good question, and one I'm afraid I don't have the answer to! I'll see if Wakanomori knows.

Cool.
They should make a seal script of Maru leaping into a box.

In the left-most column, about halfway down, I think we may have Maru walking around with a box on his head.
