I was too. Little furnaces in them, like all of us warm-blooded creatures have, and they're out there dancing in the snow.

I'm somewhat embarrassed by the poem, it's like tying your sled to the Snow Queen's sleigh, but ... I went and did that, anyway.

The image I love not only for its grace and beauty but because that glowing breath reminds me of the warmth and vigorous aliveness of those cranes, who might otherwise be merely beautiful images. But they're not just that--they're alive, with hearts pounding and blood circulating and breath going in and out--amazing.
