the cat's novel and the escaping flame

The cat, like everyone else in the household, likes to express himself in writing. Unfortunately, he is like the proverbial caffeine-addled college student who writes the entire exam on one line:

(Also he has a tendency to scrawl and use abbreviations, and none of us is fluent in Cat. Poor guy. He is a poorly understood genius.)

Now this candle flame. It knew its life was guttering out, so you see what it's doing? It's trying to make a break for it--out of the bottle candlestick. If ... I can just ... climb over ... this rim ...

Way to go, candle flame. I admire you.

Now we've got to go find some other place in which to burn...

Yep. I think there's a poem coming on.

I think it got it.

Ah, the beauty of cats. Does your cat "talk" as well as write? I have several that will carry on conversations and it's wonderful. :)

We should all aspire to be that candle...to shine in spite of the odds against us.

Our cat yells. He's definitely learned that the squeeky noisy wheel gets the grease. Or the petting and catfood.

"Poorly understood"? It just says

DANGER
VICIOUS BOARD
KEEP SUBDUED

several times, admittedly in ever-larger and more irritable script.

Wow! I'm glad we have the cat to keep that board in its place.

Also: I will have to turn to you for my Cat translation needs in the future. Most give up when they see the sloppy script.

I don't see sloppiness, just character. It only lines up when forged by a dog.

Rodents can fake it visually, but to the best of my knowledge have never figured out not to pee on it.

Starving in a universe filled with food. For the sake of your house, I hope it didn't make it.

There's kind of a metallic food desert all around the candle holder, but you're right. He might feast himself and all his progeny in quite a horrific way if he managed to make it past that food desert.

I used to know a family whose cats left many interesting and articulate messages on a talking typewriter. Later, at boarding school, I was part of a small group enjoying messages from many odd creatures, on another talking typewriter.

Yes, this!

And I shall take their examples to heart on this day when I'm feeling a bit "why ever for?"
