waiting for snow

The day is waiting for snow. It's very gray and dreary and quiet. The sky can barely hold itself up. The forest creatures are parched for snow. If it snows, they will be like desert flowers that get rain. They will probably bloom in improbable ways.

Snow
Bright trees now burnt out
Soon the white ashes will come
Drifting gently down.

(I wrote that about a month ago... so much for "soon." I'd like to see some snow already!!)

Save the jealousy for everyonesakitty and doubt72... all we got here was a dusting. I mean really: I could make snowier looking snow with powder after a bath.

As the head of the New England Tanka Foundation I demand that you rewrite this post in tanka form. Seriously.

Thirst springs
in the throats that linger
in winter woods;
watching clouds and waiting
for ice-winds to blow

Ahh, that's perfect!

I have to use my last two waking moments on Majestico, but will add a sister tanka when my brain is back in gear (not my brian, as I first typed. I have no brians. Only a steve.)

I always think I would love to live somewhere where there is 1)a forest and 2)a proper winter.

But reading this, I'm not so sure. I wouldn't be able to leave the house, brrr.
