Jiji the goalie

To take your mind off the very sad news about Terry Pratchett, here is a 28-second video of Jiji acting as goalkeeper in a game of tinfoil-ball soccer.

That's not a bad way for me to hear about Terry Pratchett. (WAH.)

What a pretty cat. My mother once had a black cat who loved to play with those fuzzy bobbles that craft stores sell (and I guess people use them for something, but I don't know what). He would only play with pink ones, but once he got set up, it was a little like playing pinball. You'd shoot a bobble at him and he would smack it back at you. The bobbles were too light for us to seriously contemplate setting up a system where they could knock objects over or otherwise emulate a pinball game, but the cat would certainly have been up for it.

Oh I'm very sorry to have broken the sad news for you :(

Maybe black cats have an affinity for batting things?

(I know what you mean about those fluffy bobbles--what *are* they for, I wonder, other than cat toys.)

Really, it was a good way, if there is such a thing, to find out bad news, especially with a cat chaser.

We have two black cats, so I'll have to try them out on the pinball/goalie circuit and see how they do. What they mostly seem to have at this stage of their young lives is an affinity for escape and general mischief, so maybe a career of batting things would distract them.

I think I've seen those bobbles on lampshades and maybe blankets, but I am still very dubious. Maybe they are a tradition that nobody recalls the origin of, but you just have to have them in a craft store or things will go wrong somehow.

Hahaha, I like the idea of them as a necessary protective ward for craft stores! Yes, I think I've seen them on lampshades too, come to think of it--grandmother-generation lampshades.

Sometimes he'll play for quite a while before either a ball gets past him or he gets bored.

I'm amused that because the video is titled "Goalie Jiji," the recommended videos that pop up after viewing are all for actual human soccer goalies.

love it!
Thanks for the distraction! I don't often watch cat videos, but this is a cute one. Excellent goal keeping. :)

Re: love it!
Sometimes he's much more on his game and deflects our shots for much longer--this game is fun for human and cat alike.
