Dreams

(from two nights ago)

I dreamed an old friend died
I dreamed a speculator tore down my house and tried to buy the ruins
I dreamed the city flooded, and there were alligators
I dreamed I waded through, up to my neck
I dreamed women sat above the waterline
Picking through platters of half-eaten fruit
Pulling out the untouched pieces to sell again
I asked them for directions to my ruined house

All through the night I kept waking and nearly waking
Consoling myself with the intuition
That it was all a dream
But it was not till I stood upright
In the crystal cold of morning
That I believed it.

I couldn't stop reading spectacular instead of speculator for some reason. I kept seeing a giant monster that you were describing lol.

fruitful misreading! I like your take.

That sounds like an exhausting night's sleep!

I sometimes go through intense periods of stress dreaming and I wish I could give up sleep when that happens. The benefit gained from the sleep is outweighed by the troubled dreams and I wake up almost as tired as when I went to bed.

The unsure-about-reality part was the most stressful.

That sounds both creepy and exhausting emotionally. I bet you were relieved to wake up!

Elements of it were cool, but mainly it was very emotionally exhausting, so yeah! I definitely was.

Haha, no--it's mistakes in my coding!

I was trying to type <br></br>, which is the coding for making a line break, because I like a line break between the last line I type and the end of my entry :-P

(But now I've corrected the coding, so it's disappeared, and left me with just my extra space!)

I can't figure it out--I haven't been doing anything out of the ordinary.

It was all very vivid--a sovay-type dream.

This is so evocative. But what a stressful dream.

What was strange was how, even semi-waking, I couldn't pull free. It was pretty stressful.

I'm touched you think so.

On Friday morning, I dreamt I was doing more or less the same exact thing I did Friday afternoon and night.

Except it was early autumn and I was wearing a t-shirt. Imagine my disappointment.

I didn't dream this morning. I was too giddy to really sleep.

in fact it's frigid winter
I can imagine your disappointment. Will have to check your journal entry for the reason for your giddiness!

You do. I think I'm done editing things in, although I might be wrong.

Wow, that's some kind of dream to travel through. :/

It was--but although stressful, it was also *rich*, and I appreciate that about it.

Sounds a bit like the kind of real-life disaster series where you, wile suffering, feel moved to appreciate the thoroughness and the artistry.

Something like that--it wasn't just an artistic appreciation, though. I think it's kind of like appreciating an adventure after it's safely over. (Except for the friend dying part--that was just awful and I was nothing but relieved.)

If it were my dream, I should find it "typical". There are those collective traits - water, the flood, the ruined house (yours) - you know well all this.

It was a bad dream. I'm sorry it kept you awake. Dreams are weird things though. They gather pieces of experience, often things we may see or hear, without even noticing...

You have--or remember--rich, full dreams more often than I do. This does feel like something you might dream! Especially the floods.

A powerful, disturbing dream - it sounds like you were tussling all night, with your body trying hard to wake you up out of it, and the dream trying again and again to claim you, to hold you until it had finished its story.

Yes, the dream definitely wanted me to see it through.
