pictures before words

I have a word-ful post for you later, but first pictures.

It's distractingly beautiful out my window:

DSCN5125

And did you ever wonder what a kitchen floor would look like if someone spilled cranberries over it? Here is the answer:

DSCN5127

I think I see constellations in there. Con-cranberry-lations.

What a very clean kitchen floor - underneath the cranberries, of course. You will not be seeing photos of my kitchen floor anytime soon.

Those leaves are very beautiful.

Oh, it is most emphatically *not* a clean kitchen floor--the flash obscured most of the dirt :-P

so glad we can supply these things for each other, you know?

Know'st thou not at the fall of the leaf
How the heart feels a languid grief
Laid on it for a covering,
And how sleep seems a goodly thing
In Autumn at the fall of the leaf?

And how the swift beat of the brain
Falters because it is in vain,
In Autumn at the fall of the leaf
Knowest thou not? and how the chief
Of joys seems—not to suffer pain?

Know'st thou not at the fall of the leaf
How the soul feels like a dried sheaf
Bound up at length for harvesting,
And how death seems a comely thing
In Autumn at the fall of the leaf?

They look like some sort of statistical data, like the number of cranberry planets in the solar system.

The kitchen floor with cranberries looks like modern art: all the smooth clean lines, suddenly interrupted by the brash red of the berries.

And it sounds like a poem of some kind: Kitchen Floor with Cranberries.

It really does look like a modern art exhibit! Oh man, I can already feel myself spinning the description, and the thing is, I end up persuading myself--something so red and living, little hearts, little pieces of the autumn outdoors, on the not-alive, dead-white, vinyl floor. (What would Alessandro say??)

That's amazing. The grid of the screen makes it look like some kind of tapestry.

I think I see constellations in there. Con-cranberry-lations.

I thought at first they were pomegranate seeds.

Autumn is when the ground looks most like a tapestry, for sure. And yes! They're like New World, cold climate pomegranate seeds. With that red-heart redness, and growing in bogs, they seem very gateway.
