two potential band names

Unindicted Co-conspirators

Caustic Prudes

Oh, and another: The IEDs

What do you think? The first was from the news yesterday or the day before. The second came to me when I was trying to think of a way to describe myself and why I've only ever been in a bar, let's see. Three times in my life. The third time was today. I had to go into the local bar to give the owner her Crop Walk T-shirt. She's an amazing woman who always supports every good cause, and she supported the Crop Walk to the tune of $100, so the bar got its name on the T-shirt, and she got one. And that was a month ago, and I only just gave her the T-shirt today.

It was a remarkably friendly seeming place, but I still felt WICKED OUT OF PLACE standing at the bar. Like I might faint. And then one of the guys sitting down, whom I was hovering behind, waiting for the owner to notice me, looked up, and it was this guy who does youth ministry in our church! Having lunch, I might add, not drinking.

Then when I left, a guy watched my hopeless backing and filling anxiously, afraid I might hit his Harley. A reasonable fear, but I didn't.

I like Unindicted Co-conspirators. What does IED stand for?

Tee hee. I haven't been in a bar since I was 16! And despite having spent lots of time in bars as a kid (not drinking, of course!) I wouldn't have a clue what to do in one as a patron.

Improvised Explosive Device... you know, as in Iraq...

maybe in bad taste?

Um, well. Band names are supposed to be edgy, right?

(You see how I watch no news!)

Well, it beats IUD.

1. The IEDs.

2. I agree about bars. The only thing they're good for is having stages. Stages for jazz combos.

3. Well, and maybe they're good for having bartenders who make martinis. Good ones. With good gin.

4. Have you heard "Mad World" by Gary Jules? I think you'd like it. I hadn't heard it in ages, and then they started playing it on some video game commercial. Loverly.

Better than that version of Mad World (IMHO only, of course!) is the original version, by Tears For Fears. I love that song! But any version is good, because it's a good song. Tears for Fears have some super emo songs--another one by them is "Watch Me Bleed" :-P

And good gin :-)

My favorite drink is a gin and tonic, mmmm...

My latest band names are "Disposable Girl" and "Karma Cabinet." ;)

I love IED - great name. Althought at first I thought "IUD?"

Yeah, when you say IED, it does sound like IUD, doesn't it! And eww, IUDs wouldn't be a fun name for a band. Karma Cabinet, though, I could definitely go with!

Yea, I suspect you are like me and not a great big fan of attention directed your way. Bars are pretty much designed to make our kind feel out of place, especially as women. Hate 'em.

To be fair to this bar... it was pretty open and not at all dive-y. But all the ritual of bars is beyond me...

As a younger person, it was more the (potential) drunkenness that scared me than anything else--that and the darkness of some bars. Now I think it's just the unfamiliarity...

Ha ha! I love the 'Caustic Prudes'! Kimd of reminds me of the Raging Grannies. Is there a chapter out your way?
Nov. 18th, 2006 10:12 pm (UTC)
Not that I am suggesting you are either raging or a granny! I just thought you might admire them. Anyway, I do...!
Nov. 19th, 2006 12:26 am (UTC)
No worries :-) I rage plenty, and technically I could be a granny (having teenage kids and all...)

And I like that they interfere with recruiters--lying bunch who tried to come over to my house when I wasn't home to enlist my son!

I don't know--I'll have to check--they sound cool! Speaking of protesting, I saw some people in tents outside a nearby mall around here, and thought maybe they were protesting one thing or another... wanted to check it out and encourage them... and then it turned out they were just camping out to buy the Nintendo WII that goes on sale tomorrow. D'OH.
