squirrel feast

On halloween we carved some jack o' lanterns. I saved all the innards, with the intention of picking through to get out the seeds and roasting them. But... I left it an extra day, and the goo was beginning to get a bit... nasty. Still, I persevered, and last night we did have a good bunch of roasted pumpkin seeds.

But, I didn't get all of them, so I set the bowl of innards and seeds out on the deck, so I can take it down to the compost bin, you know, whenever.

And so this morning, a squirrel was having quite a feast. wakanomori took some pictures...

He was so cute to watch, bending over that big bowl to pick up a seed!

Tee-hee, we're nothing if not generous! (But please, squirrels, don't take up residence in our roof...)

So cute!

I cleaned out the pantry here a couple days ago, and rather than throwing out the old gummed-up breakfast cereal I have been putting it outside on the patio.

We topped out at six simultaneous squirrels before it was all gone. (Note this was fancy organic cereal. No Fruit Loops for the wild life here!)

Though, I've heard that fruit loops are a favorite reward among lab rats (seriously--I don't remember where or when I heard this, but I really did hear it).

You've got squirrels who appreciate a more **natural** breakfast cereal!
