more ice and fire

The ice was in the form of frost this morning. It lingered in the shadows (see neighbor's lawn, behind cut)

October morning
Stretching long across the grass
The shadows shine white

And the fire? When I was hanging out laundry I found four bright-red autumn raspberries, all ripe. Others are ripening. I guess they don't mind the frost! See one (from the following day; I ate the others!) under the cut

Excellent images. Of course, now I have Norway ("the Land of Fire and Ice") in my mind.

Is Norway called the Land of Fire and Ice? I didn't know that!

You know, I think it must be Iceland, not Norway. Norway's got the ice but not the fire! But Iceland's got both ice (glaciers) and fire (volcanoes).

Alas we have real fire, after a blazing day, choking with smog and smoke--four firefighters dead, acres of trees lost, animals burned.

Arson, apparently.

That was the news I heard yesterday that made me think of you. It's just terrible. A truly foul crime.

(And when I say it made me think of you, I only mean because you're in Los Angeles--not because I associate you with fires, disasters, death, or arson!)

Actually I'm thirty miles south of LA (though it's all megalopolis for about a hundred miles) but yeah, I figured that!

That funny line by your username was supposed to display as a heart, but it didn't work :-( Oh well--I probably typed something wrong...

It works! I do see the heart :) You should wait a little longer, and it will appear!

I edited the entry so now there's a photo of--not one of the raspberries from that frosty morning, but one that I found this morning on the same cane. (Today is rainy instead of frosty.)

Yeah--and in practically November! Maybe it's an enchanted raspberry bush...
