autumn randomity

Yesterday I ate chestnuts all day long--all day long! and in the morning I picked up more of them at the chestnut grove.

Today it's overcast--I like overcast autumn days maybe even more than sunny ones, because the leaves seem to glow with their own light. I can hear them falling. Also, the overcastness is closer to my feelings in autumn--it's so beautiful, but so melancholy, too.

I fall asleep in autumn, and all that's left of me is just my mind--it's only in summer that I'm a complete person. I don't mind, though--being all-mind gives me sympathy for the machine characters in one science-fiction world I have in my head.

I say all-mind, but I'm always SO COLD from now until (thinking...) June. I wear seventy-two layers of clothes, drink tea perpetually, and put my hands under the warm tap to get the blood flowing again. And jump around and rub my hands together, etc. etc. So, the body is pretty present, come to think of it.

Two people have given me food inspirations: wondernoon has got me thinking about chestnut soup and (separate dish) okra and tomatos, and babydriver has got me thinking of fried green tomatoes. Make that three people: I'm still thinking about the zucchini balls that joybon enjoyed some time ago.

Yeah, maybe I'm being morbid--and I know I didn't always feel this way--but when I see the leaves all red and yellow, even though they're beautiful, I can't help seeing it as the trees having fevers--like there's all this *heat* that goes into the leaves, all this heat, making beauty and color... before the leaves shrivel up, turn brown, and DIE. <--yes, I'm morbid all right.

I'm totally morbid - I see the exact same thing looking at the leaves.
