The weirdness meme

tagged by amberdine

Well, this turns out to be harder than it looks... find entertaining weird things about myself to share... not the "that's not weird, that's just boring" things or the "ohh... I see... well... BYE!" things, either. Here are some that I hope don't veer into either of those ranges... and I guess I can't put stuff that's in my bio...

(1) I like to sleep in places other than my bed. I sleep on the couch in the living room, on the floor in the living room, on the floor in my study, and sometimes, if I'm not careful, in the bath. I never, ever have trouble falling asleep. I love falling asleep.

(2) I have the nervous habit, when I'm walking the dog, of grabbing one arm with the other behind my back. When I realize I'm doing it, I let go of my arm, but then five minutes later I'm doing it again. It's part, I think, of holding myself together and being in a ready stance for dealing w/people. And yet, I always am cheerful and pleasant when I see people.

(3) I don't like turning against traffic (you know. left turns in the United States or Canada... right turns in England or Australia) I'll go pretty far out of my way to avoid them.

(4) Even though I never got past precalculus in math, I think math is beautiful and profound. Sometimes, when I think about it, it brings tears to my eyes.

(5) In the mists of time, back in the mid 1980s, when I was in college, I was taken out to dinner with a rock star I had never heard of. He was famous, but I just... didn't know who he was. Now whenever I hear his hits on the radio, I think, huh. that's the guy I had dinner with.

(6) I'm pretty much too shy to ask people to do memes--though I did once tag people to explain their names--and they did, too!--so you'd think I wouldn't be hesitant. But I am, so I'm not tagging anyone. But please feel free on your own to do this, though :-p

Edit: I like my font, but it doesn't do emoticons very well...

Hee! Neat stuff.

I knew you'd be cool. :)

(And I totally know what you mean about trying to find stuff interesting, yet not *too* weird...)

Yeah.... have to save some things for the Six Pathetic Things about Me meme or the Six Scary Things about Me meme or the Six Traits I Pretend to Be Humble about but Am Really Bragging about meme...

"Pretend to be humble about but am really bragging about" :) Funny. Though people do that! Nice humble way to beat your own drums! :) Hey no I was just showing off my humility! :)

I am envious that you can fall asleep anywhere anytime. I just can't! Although I too love sleep!

And PRAY WHO is the rock star?!!!!!

rock star
I don't know if you will have heard of him, but here goes. His name is Peter Wolf, and he was the lead singer of the J. Giels Band, which had the 1980s hit "centerfold" and "freeze frame".... mean anything to you? At the time, it didn't mean anything to me... I was more impressed that the J. Giels Band had opened for the Rolling Stones. At the time I had dinner w/ him, he had already started a solo career. I don't think he was/is as famous as a solo performer, though. My professor in Anglo Saxon poetry took us both out! That man had lots of interesting acquaintances... he was very old, though, and has since passsed away.

I can totally relate to #1. I can sleep anywhere and I can fall asleep in less than five minutes. And the part about "falling asleep". There's a point just between waking and sleep that has the most incredibly peaceful feeling. Well, I'm now showing *my* weirdness. ;~)

How I agree with you there! I dislike turning against the traffic too. However, I have not found myself going far out of my way to avoid doing that. I must admit, though, I have contemplated that alright. My office has shifted recently and the last turn that I need to make, is at a self regulating (no policeman/ no traffic lights) three way cross. The on coming traffic of office goers (in the morning) is very heavy and everyone is in a hurry. I completely dislike having to push my way through this impatient oncoming traffic and get nightmares about how one day one of these motorbikes, auto-rickshaws or huge cars is going to crash into me as I turn!

I have thought of going down to the end of the road and turning at the round about and returning from there to get an easy entry into the road to my office, but the hurry to get to work has won over all such good intentions. I continue turning into a road against the traffic... if only anyone knew about how panicky I get while doing so!
