a little something for babydriver

Better late than never?

And... I'm not the world's greatest artist, and this looked much better in my head than on paper

And... I did it from memory of the poem, then went back and looked at the poem, and saw that the wheels on the board were supposed to be roller skate wheels! That's part of the charm! Oh well.

Also, I imagined the woman's dress as purple, but since my drawing is only in pencil, it doesn't matter.

Annnd... I don't color in skin... you're supposed to be able to tell she's black even though I haven't... If I were a better artist, I could capture expression AND shade in skin, but I can't yet.

And everyone else, you can find the poem that this is trying to illustrate on this page of babydriver's journal

Picture under here. It shrinks a lot when it loads onto LJ.)

lovely...shows how differently minds think...I had somehow imagined the scene broadside on, with them passing from right to left, don't ask me why, and in glorious technicolour (or color as you would say.) perhaps, one day, I'll post MY picture of this poem...

You're absolutely right that it should be in color! How pretty it could be--but that makes it even harder to draw and takes longer, so I stuck with a pencil sketch. I'll love to see it done in color--please do draw it! Would you use pastels? Water colors? Oils? colored ink?

What do you mean if you were a better artist? This is amazing!

that's so cool. Hey you might like watercolor pencils. You can draw with them and make shades of skin and then use a brush and water to smooth them out. They are real fun.

That is absolutely wonderful! I'm glad you drew head-on, it makes more sense that way, and somehow, I don't think I would've thought to do it from any way but the side, but I'm so glad you did. I agree with Nancy, too. You might try the watercolor pencils, but the black and white of this fits. Memories are better without color, don't you think?
