singing with redwoods

My new lj friend stdmphna told me that if you sing inside a redwood, the redwood will sing with you. I like thinking about that. Today the sun was really warm; when I put my hand on some of the trees, they felt warm to the touch. Soon they're going to burst out with buds and leaves. Right now, though, everything is still only on the verge.

Except, everywhere the moss is very bright green, fresh and new. In the undiscovered country, up from the moss are all these thin thin strands, looking like new grass, but I think it's the stems on which the moss's flowers (?? spore cases?? the moss's reproductive whatevers) come. So straight, thin, and green, so bright when everything else is pale yellow or brown.

I just found a picture of moss spores up close, on Google:

But I should take my own photos... so I could show what I really see.

By the way... before I started writing this, I turned off the maple sap on the stove. The season is nearly over, and I don't want to ruin any more syrup!

I've been enjoying reading amberdine's fantasy novel. It's so good! I never guessed when I started with livejournal that such a thing would come my way... and to think--I've also received a piece of music I've always wanted (thank you again, doubt72), a recipe, information about interesting singers and bands I didn't know about before, thought-provoking quotations from St. Augustine, and poetry, wonderful poetry.

All this because my brother sent me The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. Funny how these things work!

Meanwhile, all the forest creatures are singing Dragostea Din Tei, aka Mai Ai Hee, aka the Numa Numa song... we're listening to the "DJ Ross extended play version" (so the music note I wrote down below is no longer accurate, clearly...)

I think the location thing is new, I was wondering myself. That's a gorgeous photo. I love the idea of singing to trees.

you know, the weird thing is that when I look at my own post, I don't even see where that info is displayed, though I saw it when I was writing up the post...

Reverberating redwood
reveals the song I never sang
and out of season
who knew the song lay in wait
until I came to sing it out

that is beautiful David. I think both of you should submit poetry for publication. You are both so talented. I will post that Ribbons and Tundra link in a bit.

I agree with Nancy! This is gorgeous. In fact, I'm going to copy it into my book of special poems!!

Thank you for putting this lovely tanka here!

I really like the way you look at things and feel happy to read your journal and see your outlook. You notice things others don't notice and it is nice. I wonder what your sign is. I am curious. Also I can do a tarot reading for you sometime if you want, I like to lately. I am at ketogah@aol.com. peace, Nancy

*squee*

I showed your post to my husband and he was impressed that someone likes my book... maybe surprised, too. The bum! :)

You're a very cool addition to LJ.
