Nearly started a housefire again

I think I had plenty of other things to write about, but instead, I'll have to just confess that I left the maple sap on the stove and came in to my study to write a newsletter and instead was checking out the ol' livejournal and getting into the poetry and friends' posts... and the next thing I knew, the tall one was turning off the stove, and I came in, and smoke was billowing out of the big pot, and the smoke detector finally obligingly decided to go off, and the dog barked anxiously... sigh.

So, there will be no maple syrup today. Sigh.

I do know better. This has happened before. I can never, ever, ever, leave things on the stove and go do other stuff unless I set some kind of a timer or something.

At least I know that if I soak the pot in vinegar, all the carbonized sugar will loosen up.

But I wish I hadn't wrecked today's batch of syrup.

Oh I do this too. I often boil water til it is all dry and then sometimes I burn stuff. I love maple syrup. I really liked a lot of those children's books you mention in your bio. Thanks for adding me.

that anonymous comment was me, Asakiyume. Another bad habit I have is forgetting to log in when I'm responding to comments...

I am bad with that too. Hyperfocus, and no sense of time...

I have timers ALL OVER. That's often not good enough. I need a clock that reaches out and smacks me once an hour so I can remember to do something beyond what I've been doing -- whatever that is.

Sorrow for the maple syrup. :(

It's good to know I'm not alone in my bad habits! Thanks for the sorrow over the syrup (wipes away a tear).

I hope that wasn't my syrup you burnt.

Anyway, please be careful.

like.. amongst/among; enquire/inquire; learnt/learned or... defence/defense; honour/honor; realise/realize

British spelling is fun! And British words too: boot=trunk; bonnet=hood; lift=elevator... and so on...

Speaking of boiling away all the liquid, I have two words for you:

Exploding eggs.

At least that didn't cost you $500 for an ambulance and a visit to the ER.
It's alright, I think I've done something similar.
