pantoums

amanen has written a pantoum. Pantoums are a cool poetry form:

the rhyme scheme is ABAB in the first verse, but then the second and fourth lines of the first verse have to be the first and third lines of the second verse. You work on like this, but in your last verse, you have to have the first line of the first verse be the last line of the poem--actually, I think you're supposed to have the first and third lines of the first verse be the second and fourth lines of your last verse (like Shikuchi's does), but this one I'm using as an example only has the first line of the first verse as the last line. Also, it uses some sight rhymes as opposed to real rhymes, whereas Shikuchi uses all real rhymes--go Shikuchi!

Consider Now The Quark, by Willard Espy

Consider now the Quark, which is
A Concept sub-atomical.
No man alive has seen its phiz;
Perhaps it isn't Is at all.

A Concept sub-atomical
Too tenuous I find to prove.
Perhaps it isn't Is at all.
This goes for Hate, and also Love.

Too tenuous I find to prove
The Sun, the Shadow, and the Wind.
This goes for Hate, and also Love,
And other matters of the kind.

The Sun, the Shadow, and the Wind--
The Dream, the Doing, the Despair,
And other matters of the kind
I find are proven best in prayer.

The Dream, the Doing, the Despair,
And other matters, being His
I find are proven best in prayer.
Consider now the Quark, which Is.

Anyone who wants to try one, please share! I'll see if I can do one too.

I love that pantoum, esp. the last verse! Oh, so cool! The Quark... We learned about that recently, actually. Heh heh...
