pine-needle kintsugi

You can see examples of kintsugi--repairing ceramics with gold, so the crack itself becomes a thing of beauty, and the object-with-cracks is celebrated and appreciated--various places online (here's one). This morning I saw pine needles doing kintsugi with cracks in the road, laying down in the crevices and repairing the road very beautifully:

Yes, and fragrance too, when you're there :-)

Before viewing the images, my faintly feverish brain did several readings of that paragraph imagining china with pine needles set into its cracks with gold.

I like that idea: liquid pine needles!

I love that pine needle kintsugi. I first became aware of kintsugi when Death Cab for Cutie released an album by that name a few years back.

I think, despite years of living in Japan and a course or two in Japanese art, I only learned about it from social media posting about it, heh.

I like the bowl and the pine-needles both, very much, and I like the questions raised, about the creation of beauty, too. :)

I know about kintsugi because of the Korean equivalent. Have you seen the sculpture Translated Vase at the MFA?

I hadn't seen it, but I did an image search just now, and wow: very cool. Love this whole page
