mercury tears

The healing angel and I were eating a late dinner, very late. (How late? Like 10 pm) There came, from outside, a loud, hollow rumbling, like a kid peddling a Big Wheel. It seemed really close, like the kid was maybe pedaling up our driveway.

I realized it was someone rolling their trash bin to the end of their driveway. Probably my neighbor across the street. But it sounded like maybe she'd rolled it right up to my porch.

Since the healing angel had looked as nonplussed as I felt at the sound, I told him what I thought it was.

"No," he said. "That's not it. It's a carriage. A carriage that rolled out of the past into the present--just as it was going past our house--and then rolled back into the past again."

Later Little Springtime came home, and I told her the story. "Big Wheel? Trash bin? Can't you even tell," she said, "that it was an elephant dragging himself home after a hard day? Those were his footsteps you heard. And what about his tears? His sorrowful tears, made of mercury, not saltwater--did you hear those, as they hit the pavement?"

The healing angel and Little Springtime are awesome

. . . but now I need to go to bed. *sleepy*

:)

Whereas the chun man and I enjoyed yesterday evening by pretending to be sportscasters, at Sheeyun's hockey game. Which his team won-- and he scored a goal.

That sounds like excellent fun. When I was growing up, there was a boy who lived diagonally across the street from us who used to shoot hoops, and as he was doing it, he would narrate the commentary for the basketball game he was in, "He's clear--he passes it to [name]; [name] sets it up and shoots!" --like that.

I used to do my own, though usually in my silent head, for playing H-O-R-S-E in four personae: one fluffy feminine one whose name I can't remember, Hildegardenia (my fave), Beauregarde I (the good one) and Beauregarde II (the bad one).

I like the presence of "gard" in the three names you remember.

What made Hildegardenia your favorite?

Good question. I remember her quite clearly. She was a snappy middle-aged woman who wore a gardening hat and sunglasses. A relatively distinctive personage for a 10-11-year-old child to invent. I'm not at all sure where she arrived from. The other three were more strictly stereotypical.

Definitely definitely. A manganese cocktail with a slice of phosphorus, served on the rocks (the rocks in this case being diamonds)

(I figure an elephant that cries mercury tears needs a really HARD drink)

An elephant that cries mercury?

Wow. I think that needs to have something done with it...

For the realistic explanation, you should probably get that time portal in your driveway inspected.
For the fantasy explanation, you should request a drawing of the elephant and a story.

Now that I've had the electrician out to fix my light switch, it's time to get the chronician to fix my time portal.

Of course, really I should learn to do these things for myself....
