The other day I experienced the classic glitch in the matrix.

First, a tuxedo cat darted across the road in front of me, such a handsome tuxedo cat, and wearing a red collar:



And just as I was contemplating the mystery of tuxedo coloring, another tuxedo cat darted across the road in front of me, right after the first, a duplicate, in fact, of the first, but without the collar.



I imagine the story is this: twin kittens, born in the woods. One, loudmouthed with meows, and daring, wanders into a backyard and gets itself adopted. The sibling, shyer, retreats from the sound of human voices. And so one grows up with a red collar, cat food, and laps to sit on; the other chases mice, chipmunks, and sparrows. Whenever they can, they meet up, where the ferns and wild grapes give way to mowed grass.

In other news, I made French bread. It turned out very real!
