What I love this morning

These two orioles that were weaving, double-helix style, around each other in flight, right past my car window.
And while I was walking, the orioles in the tops of all the trees, which still just have ferny, lacy foliage, still not all unfurled.
The sun was so warm (my eyes are so tired! I closed my eyes and the sun felt so good on my eyelids.) I thought how orioles are something like monarch butterflies but brighter, more golden-orange than red-orange.
I thought, I'd like to have orioles fly all around me, so I could hear their wings and feel the breeze they make and practically touch their feathers. I'd like to be in a cloud of orioles the way trees can be in clouds of monarch butterflies. And then I remembered getting horse kisses the other day. I never knew horses were so lovey dovey! This one kept coming up and kissing my cheek and pressing her head against my chest and sniffing my sweater. Perhaps I smelled like something tasty? Or maybe she just was feeling affectionate.I feel...: tired I hear...: Deus: There is nothing impossible

Oh, that's so lovely. (Have a vicious smog headache today, so extra lovely images are much appreciated.)
Any time! And when I win the lottery, I'll offer you a plane ticket here.

Count me in. Even I'd like to have orioles and butterflies around us.
How un-useful we humans are... we human beings can move around but still have out run around to see orioles and butterflies, but for the trees...
Thank you so much for this lovely post. How I wish I had atleast some share of your writing talent. Every post of your makes me think, cheerup and what not.
It's my deep joy to share these things.
And I enjoy your posts as well, and your comments on Deponti's journal too :-)
What a delightful image! I wish we had orioles around here. Or monarchs, for that matter (actually I think we do have monarchs occasionally, but they are not common. But no orioles)
In my childhood, I never saw orioles. When I first saw one, I thought it was like a golden bird from a fairy tale--hard to believe it was real. I still feel that way, really.
I've noticed a similar pair of orioles here in the neighborhood over the past week, dashing and darting about the shrubs and neighborhood trees. I took a couple of photos, but since they never stay still, there's not much to see.
Yes, horses can be very affectionate. A few years ago, my dad took had a couple of Rocky Mountain walking horses, mother and daughter, and when he would come to say hi to them, they would lay their heads over his shoulder and contentedly snort. :)
heyes tried to get a shot as well. I don't know if miz_geek is on your friends list, but she has a beautiful icon of an oriole (and she takes lovely photos).
Wonderful post. Thanks for sharing. What a great combination of assets you have--a strong sense of nature, bird, beast and their goings-on , and great writing skills! *bows (Japanese style) in admiration*
dô itashimashite!
I'm looking forward to reading many more from you, as well :-)

beautiful meditation this morning. oh, to be an oriole or to be a tree. freedom in our thoughts.
i love it when my dog affectionately leans her head against my chest or shoulder.
unconditional love....yep....that is the answer ;-)
Yes, the soft weight of the head against you, just wonderful.
Horses can be very affectionate. I love the velvety feel of their muzzles.
We have a pair of orioles that have claimed the wetland just outside my window. They are hunting at the moment in the McIntosh, and Pixie is watching them from her cobbler bench.
I grew up in upstate New York and never saw any orioles, ever. It continues to delight me, seeing them here...

I am sooo jealous you got horse kisses!!! Horses are my favorite.
I know--I felt so lucky! Like being singled out by the prince at the ball. I just hugged her right back and stroked her cheek.

Awwww... I miss being able to do stuff like that. Maybe while I am visiting in Utah I will get to spend some time with my friend's horse. Unless it is out with the other horses playing (a few towns/cities over).
I don't think I've ever seen an actual Oriole.
The horse love, I have experienced, though. Well, if you count having one fall on top of you as 'love.' (He was old, and apparently tired, and my brushing him had caused him to get rather drowsy, so when I picked up one of his hooves to pick it clean... BOOM!)
