Yesterday, in clouds and rainy weather, Little Springtime and I went to help celebrate my grandmother's 102nd birthday**. Both on the way there and on the way back, we heard "Time after Time," once the cover version by Quietdrive and once the Cyndi Lauper original.
It seemed a good theme song.
You say go slow I fall behind The second hand unwinds
And then these lines that I find supremely comforting
If you're lost, you can look, and you will find me Time after time If you fall, I will catch you, I will be waiting Time after time
The sky ocean on the way home looked like this:

We listened to the radio and sometimes sang along. Here are 16 seconds of the journey:
**I should note that my grandmother shares a birthday with the Shôwa emperor, otherwise known as Hirohito, and so her birthday is a national holiday in Japan. He was born in 1901; she was born in 1906.I feel...: pensive I hear...: Quietdrive: Time after Time

Happy birthday to your grandma!
Thank you. Little springtime noted that she's just 13 years younger than the oldest person alive.

Does she walk, talk, are in good memory, etc.? If so -- that's just great!
Her memory is no good any more, very jumbled, and she's not clear on people, but her spirits are very good and her loving personality is the same as ever, even in her confusion. Other than that, she is in good health.
Happy birthday to your grandmother!
Thank you--and I do love your new userpic.

to help celebrate my grandmother's 102nd birthday
Wow. Happy birthday to her!
Yes, it's pretty amazing. Daunting, even. But she herself was cheerful and smiling as ever.
Thank you--if she can see them all arriving, these good wishes, she will be very pleased and delighted indeed.
She's just over 100 years older than the Pixie! Wow!
Quite a thought!
Happy birthday to Pixie!
Egad, I think I was unclear. Pixie's birthday is end of September. Your gram is 100 years 5 months older than the Pix, to be more specific.
I'm tired and a bit of an ass today.
Not at all :-D
happy birthday, give or take a few months--which in my grandmother's reckoning would be as nothing, though they're quite significant at Pixie's age.
Yeah! She keeps her spirits mainly up, too, which is great.
Wow! Happy birthday to your grandma! That's pretty amazing.
I love the crow in a tangle of branches. It looks like he's in the most elaborate cage on earth.
She's a trooper :-)
What you've said about the tree branches makes me want to design a really fantastical bird cage!
That would be really neat!
I. Love. That. Song.
I also love your entries.
I really, really love that song too--it felt really special to have it bracket the visit.
re: entries--the feeling is mutual!
I did like hearing time after time on the way there AND on the way back. It's like the two versions, with the male and female singer, were singing to each other. Sort of.
What a great idea, them singing to each other :-)
How perfectly lovely - the music, the birthday, the crow.
So strange to realize people are alive now who could have known people who were alive during Napoleon's life, or Beethoven's. Quite unsettling....
I think that too! About people being links to the past, and if you have long-lived people in each generation, how far back you can reach. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up when I think about it.
I am amazed that your grandmother has made it to 102! It makes me smile for some reason. Is she very active still or is she in a nursing home or? Just curious.
She lives in an assisted-living home now. Her memory is all confused--she forgets when it is (like, are her children in high school? Is her husband still alive?), but she still laughs and jokes about things and reads the newspaper. She can walk about on her own, but not very fast or far. She is a very good sport ♥
Wow, it's so great that she's functioning so well. I'm happy for her :)
I think it's wonderful that you can be with your grandmother on her birthday. I'm too far away to be with my two.
Yes, I felt--and feel-- really lucky.
*happy sigh* I love your life. :p
Well thank you :-) One day maybe our two lives will intersect.
Oh...WoW! She's seen and experienced so much in her lifetime. From horse carriage to motor cars. Was she born in Mass? And Birthday Greetings to your grandmother.
Yes, she was born in Massachusetts :-) And I think too of how much has changed during her life.... thanks for the greetings.
And guess what I heard on my way to work yesterday, right after reading this? :) love that song.
Happy, happy birthday to your grandmother! I hope I die before I get that old.
Yeah, I think I do do.
I love that song as well. Little springtime and I just listened to both versions.
