The murder ballad "Omie Wise"

Which is one of my favorites from Tim Eriksen.

Sung against a background of spring peepers. And with church bells at the end.

I hear...: Tim Eriksen: Omie Wise

Hey thanks for introducing him to me. I've been watching his stuff since the ballad he sung in the sleet.

Yes indeed. He's incredible. You can pick out his voice, by the way, on those shape-note songs--it's the really strong male voice.

LOLs! Typo :-P

Yeah, that part's scary, but he confesses later on.

What's so great about Tim's videos--aside from his singing and playing, which are always great--is how he uses natural sounds and settings.

What you can do if you want to hear the end but don't want to hear that one part is wait for the video to load all the way and then pull the little circle thing to near the end and let it play from there.

FMF WISHES she was walking there! Hey! Maybe she WILL NOW! I will lend you a kid so that you don't look so stalker-esque! (Kidding, Kidding!)
(were you the first one to comment on the video?)

I loved the peepers in the background but- I couldn't hear the church bells.

I was the first *two* to comment on the video :-P

Hopeless.

But I just LOVED it.

Listen at the very end, after he stops singing. You can hear them faintly.

He also put up another one from the concert you and I were at.

I love this one, too. And the peepers make an excellent accompaniment!

But I never understood exactly why John Lewis killed her? Was it because he felt she was greedy/money hungry? Did she refuse to marry him somewhere and I missed it? Or was it when she said "I'm afraid of your ways" that meant she wouldn't wed him?

What a strange name for a girl - Omie Wise. Not so very wise, as it turned out.

Well, it all does seem extreme.

I think he was mad at her for not making love, and he went overboard. He regretted his actions afterward.

Oh, and if you look at his notes to the video, you'll see it was based on a true story o_O

Looks like "Omie" comes from "Naomi"

Good luck about the jury duty btw; that was bad luck :-(

Thanks for that link - it didn't even occur to me there might be a wiki page on "Omie Wise". You'd think by now I'd no longer underestimate the mighty omniscience that is Wikipedia. ;)

Someone needs to rewrite that entry, though, to include Tim Eriksen among the famous folks who've sung that tune. Perhaps even include a link to his YouTube video?

I agree! But I'm swamped with work, and I know you have to go through some kind of sign-up process to edit Wikipedia (can't say that line without thinking of the song "White and Nerdy" by Weird Al) and I don't have the time right now... otherwise I totally would!

You're probably busy too, but go for it, if you happen to have a few minutes :D

I don't know about "liked" it..it was rather scary...but I enjoyed it...and the sounds of the peepers (I had to hear really HARD to get the faint church bells, I must say your hearing is very acute!) added to it.
(thoughts?)
