Lovely drawing! She is very good, and very creative! And I like the paper -- it looks very much like the handmade paper (by Sergey) I used for painting the wild boar, koi, and some other sumi-e :)
So, it's really a Japanese game? :)
It's a hand game--I think it's very widespread. It's best played by just two people.
Scissors cut paper, rock breaks scissors, and paper covers rock. So you count to three, or in Japanese you say "Jan-Ken-Pon," and then you either make a fist for a rock, or your first and second finger in a V for scissors, or your palm flat for paper. Your opponent does the same thing. If you indicate rock, and your opponent indicates scissors, you win, but if your opponent indicates paper, he wins. It's fun.

Oh, I know this game well -- it's popular in Russia, too! My son used to always played it with his friends, as a child. Only the order was "rock - scissors - paper". I was smiling at the note that it's a Japanese game :)
The ninja girl is describing its Japanese incarnation, but yes, it's probably universal.

So, Jan-Ken-Pon means "one-two-three" in Japanese?
No, they're just sounds. "One, two, three" in Japanese would be "Ichi, ni, san."
:-D Tell you what; go over to littlemetaldrop and let her know. Thanks! (stupid HTML...) Edited at 2008-04-24 10:51 am (UTC)
I'm going to delete a bunch of our exchange, below, to preserve anonymity of key folks, okay?
I felt like a secret agent.
Thanks! You can let the artist know directly at littlemetaldrop. Edited at 2008-04-24 11:28 am (UTC)
Those are awesome! I love how clearly they evoke their items. :)
Oh I'm so glad you saw! The artist, who is littlemetaldrop on LJ, really enjoyed your art in The Aphorisms of Kherishdar, so I'm really pleased that you liked this one, of hers. She posted this picture on her LJ, too, just now, so you can tell her directly if you go there. Yeah, I liked the way she chose appropriate motifs from Japanese art for each item.
